Need to know

  • Brexit and our jobs
We continue to recruit internationally regardless of the UK's withdrawal from the European Union.
  • Immigration
Successful applicants and members of their family forming part of their households will be exempt from immigration restrictions.
  • Recruitment and onboarding during COVID-19
We have continued to hire staff during the pandemic and the continued health and safety of our staff and candidates remains our priority.  The application process remains unchanged. However, ECMWF has successfully conducted all job interviews via videoconferencing. Face-to-face interviews will only resume when it is safe to do so.

Shortlisted for interview

After the closing date, we will review all applications and shortlist candidates to invite for interview, based on the requirements of the job outlined in the vacancy notice . We will establish a shortlist as quickly as possible.

Shortlisted candidates

If you are shortlisted, we will email you to invite you for an interview and provide you with all the relevant information you need, including the names of the interview panel members.

Testing

We may ask you to undertake a task or test as part of the interview process. Should this be necessary, we will inform you in advance.

Feedback to non-shortlisted candidates

If you are not shortlisted, we will notify you by email as soon as possible after the shortlist has been established.

Interviews

Usually face-to-face interviews take place at ECMWF in Reading, Berkshire, UK but due to the ongoing COVID-19 situation, all interviews are being carried out remotely using Teams until further notice.

Decision process

After all the interviews have taken place, the interview panel will make a decision and make a recommendation to a Selection Board.  The final decision is taken by the Director-General of ECMWF.  This process can take several weeks.

Pre-employment medical examination

A member of the Human Resources Section will usually contact you either by telephone or email to make a conditional offer. A pre-employment medical form will then be emailed to you so you can arrange a medical as soon as possible, as a formal offer is not made by ECMWF until medical clearance has been obtained.

Non selected candidates

All non selected candidates will be contacted by email of the outcome of their application as soon as it is possible to do so.

Contracts of employment

Once the medical clearance has been granted, ECMWF will send  the successful candidate a contract of employment.

Onboarding

During the pandemic, we have continued to successfully onboard our new staff and welcome them to the ECMWF family.  We do not expect you or your family to relocate immediately and we will provide all the support that is needed to ensure you have the best possible start.
