Introduction to ECMWF computing facilities, services and the Meteorological Archival and Retrieval System (MARS)

Overview

The aim of this course is to introduce participants to ECMWF's basic computing services (the workstation system (ecgate) and the data storage/archive facility) and the Meteorological Archival and Retrieval System (MARS). MARS is the Centre's meteorological data archive.

The course is aimed at new users of ECMWF's computing services.

Requirements

The practical sessions for all modules will involve using a UNIX interactive system. Participants of any module must know basic UNIX commands, including how to use an editor (e.g. vi, etc.). Knowledge of compilation of simple Fortran programs in a UNIX environment is a requirement as well as familiarity with ANSI Fortran 77 and 90.

All the lectures and practical activities will be in English.
