ECMWF has an extensive education and training programme to assist Member States and Co-operating States in the training of scientists in numerical weather forecasting, and in making use of the ECMWF forecast products.

Our advanced training courses in numerical weather prediction (NWP) will give participants an understanding of the underpinning science as well as current research developments. These courses are aimed at scientists working with NWP systems.

The "Use and interpretation of ECMWF products" courses focus on the operational aspects of the ECMWF forecasting system. Their aim is to increase the participant's ability to examine and assess ECMWF output products. It is directed towards those who are (or will be) using ECMWF products either directly as forecasting staff or in research and development work.

WMO Fellowship scheme

ECMWF and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) have developed a scheme under which the Centre regularly hosts forecasters from developing countries for a number of months. The scheme is part of the WMO Fellowship Programme, which was set up after the WMO identified a need for specialised training placements to develop capacity in least developed and developing countries.

If you want to know more and apply, please go to WMO fellowship scheme.

Applications are now open. Deadline for submission 3rd February 2020

ECMWF training courses are freely available to Member States and Co-operating States (MS/CS).

Applicants from International Organisations and non-Member and Co-operating States of ECMWF (non-MS/CS) may apply to attend any of the training courses; for these applicants a course fee is payable. Applications must be accompanied by a statement to confirm which institution will be responsible for paying the fees.

Priority is given to Member and Co-operating State applications.
