ECMWF scientists discuss the Centre's forecasts in the Weather Room

ECMWF is recruiting a new Director for its Forecast Department after Florence Rabier left the post to become Director-General of ECMWF.

Since its creation in 1975, ECMWF had been operating with three departments: Research, Administration, and Operations. In 2013 the ECMWF Directorate decided to split the latter into the Computing and the Forecast Departments.

The objective was to allow these two major areas of ECMWF’s work to stand alone and to focus more efficiently on the needs of their respective stakeholders.

Dr Rabier successfully took on the challenge of building the new Forecast Department, ensuring that the Centre’s deliverables are produced to the highest possible standards and meet the needs of its user community.

Less than three years into its creation, the Forecast Department is thriving and ready for the next stage of its development, making this role a very exciting opportunity for a talented expert in numerical weather prediction (NWP).

If you feel you can show the leadership required to manage and deliver a significant number of strategic and operational outcomes in the world of NWP, work with world-leading scientists and analysts, and juggle a wide range of conflicting and urgent issues, then you should apply for this role!

For more details on the role and how to apply, see Jobs at ECMWF.
