Registration for ECMWF’s workshop on high-performance computing in meteorology closes on Monday, 26 September.

This major event in our calendar runs every two years, attracting delegates from leading meteorological centres, universities and industry.

This year’s workshop takes place from 24 to 28 October 2016 at ECMWF’s headquarters in Reading, UK.

The varied programme includes presentations from almost 50 speakers – from ECMWF, national weather services, universities, NASA, NOAA, and vendors including Cray, IBM, ATOS, Intel, SGI, NVIDIA, Fujitsu, ARM, NAG, Allinea and PGI.

This year’s event will focus on the Scalability Programme. ECMWF speakers will open the workshop with a review of what has been achieved over the past two years, including a look at the evolving state-of-the-art in global numerical weather prediction.

Keynote speakers

On the second day, participants will have an opportunity to hear Professor Jack Dongarra, Director of the Innovative Computing Laboratory (ICL) at the University of Tennessee, USA, whose keynote speech is entitled ‘With Extreme Scale Computing the Rules Have Changed’. Professor Dongarra specialises in numerical algorithms in linear algebra, parallel computing, the use of advanced-computer architectures, programming methodology, and tools for parallel computers.

Professor Thomas Schulthess, Director of the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS), will also take part and address delegates on day three of the workshop. His research interests are focused on magneto-electronics, nanoscience, and transition metal oxide materials, as well as the application of ultra-scale computing in these areas.

More information and the programme are available on the workshop web page.
